It really is a wonderful thing you all are doing for these collies. I use to have a border collie as a child, these dogs are so intelligent and loving.

Stacy

Hi Y'all! I just wanted to let you know that the girls, now Lacey and Ellie are doing great. Lacey is up to 25 lbs and Ellie is at 19. They have learned to sit and lie down. They still don't like their crate but settle down quickly at bedtime. Goliath, my 8 year old irish wolfhound mix who is 105 lbs., has adjusted quite well. He lets them climb on him and gives them kisses. Roadie, my golden mix who is 12, is not as keen on them. But he does let them drink first out of the water dish. Skunk and Stranger kitties are not at all impressed. But they stand their ground. I try to help redirect the girls, but they are strong spirited. I'm still keeping them away from the horse. They don't understand the potential damage this 1000 lb. creature could do. Housebreaking is going slowly and some days are better than others. I take them out every 2 hours but sometimes they just forget where they are supposed to go. Thank goodness we hadn't yet replaced our carpeting. Ellie is still the instigator. Her keen nose takes her everywhere I don't want her to be. She is especially fond of grabbing the toilet paper and running thru the house with it, still attached to the roll. Lacey is my love bug. She loves to snuggle and gives the sweetest puppy kisses. If her attraction to ankles has anything to do with it, I'm thinking she will be an excellent herder. All in all, they are a pleasure and a joy. They make us smile and laugh. They are smart, sweet, fun, loving...everything happy healthy puppies should be. We are grateful to have them.

sincerely,
Doug and Sandra

I enjoy your web site very much. I probably look at it a couple times a week. I have two dogs currently and I am unable to adopt at this time but if the time comes around I will contact you folks. Bless you all for taking care of these dogs.

I check this web page periodically to see all the collies available for adoption. I adopted Annie from Fort Wayne Indiana (TSCR), two years ago April. She is a joy to me and my family. I love her to pieces. I would very much like to adopt another collie; but Annie has grown into the alpha female in our house and I don't think she would share well. In fact sometimes it is hard to get into my own bed. The web page is great and the service you all perform for our beloved collies cannot be measured. Thanks for all you do.

"Jason" Is learning new things everyday and is becoming very sociable at the Dog Park! We call him "JASE" now most of the time.I am very glad we chose him!
He has become quite a charmer and every time I take him out people comment on how pretty he is.We have had him a month now and he is doing great.

Carol

We have had "Jason" for two weeks now and he is becoming much more confident! What a sweetie he is.He goes on walks 4 to 5 times a day and we are finding the dog park in Westerville is a great way to bring out some tail wagging. He loves to run with other dogs.
He gets along great with our other dog and the cat. He has learned to sit and is working on down. Also learning his dog cushion is his "place".
Thank you! I don't think I metioned that he was my 25th anniverary present and I am truly enjoying him

Three weeks ago I had to put my beloved Riley to sleep. He was a beautiful mahogoney with a loving, gentle spirit. I had him from the time he was 6 weeks old. We bought him as a bribe to my oldest daughter...but I was the one who won the lottery, so to speak. Riley became my love-bug. My best buddy, who loved to sit with on the sofa, who never left my side. I always joked that he was like a blonde, beautiful but dumb! But he was anything except dumb. He had so much love, such understanding of me. When I went through my divorce he was my solace in the darkness. We got a kitten that adopted Riley as her mommy, except...Riley was a guy! But Riley loved her, let her nibble on his legs when he walked by, let her bat at him, and let her nuzzle him and sleep with him at night. When she meowed in the night, even though his body was slow to respond, he always got up, and went to her, to check on her. He took good care of her, as he had taken care of me. They were never separated.

I know I have rambled, but what I want to say is that while I am heart broken, I have found the place where I will bring home my new best friend from. Collies are truly angels, sent to take care of us.

I thank you for this wonderful site. I will be contacting you very soon...I have hopes of giving love again to another angel...who will love me back unconditionally.

God Bless you and all of your efforts to save these beautiful animals.

My husband Ken & I would like to thank you for putting our AJ in your In Memory section. We sorely miss him. It's very difficult to be in the back yard where he always was and not be able to tuck him in at night. It's hard to get up in the morning and not see him in his favorite spot by the tv. Again, thank you.

What a great site. I visit it often. We have a 1 year old female sable and white collie. She is the first collie we ever had, and we are hooked on collies. When we are ready for another dog, we will definitely adopt a rescue collie. Thanks for your good work.

Cindy

Just a refresher...if you are interested in collie conversation, Tri-State Collie Rescue has a yahoo group dedicated to supporting our adoptive and potentially adoptive Tri-State Collie families, providing you information about upcoming TSCR events that you can attend or help with, and just give you a place to brag about the furkids that live with you! This website rocks. I have been looking for collies for a long time. To keep me company and for me to give it love in return. My mother found this sit 2 months ago. I am so happy she did. I first laid eyes on Kali but she got sold. Now my eyes are fixed on April. I had a dog when I was tiny. It was a cocker spaniel mix. I loved that dog. But he got hit on the road. Ever since I've been getting older, I want a dog more and more. I looked at other dogs, but some were too agressive or just not my type. But collies are my love. I know most of them are reruns but I love the show "Lassie." After watching I decided to stick on picking just a collie. I'm still thinking but soon (I hope ) I'll be able to buy one of your dogs. Your shelter rocks and if I could I would buy all of them.

Hi Sharon,
Well, we have had Taylor 24hrs and I cannot say enough about what an angel Collie she is! She did not complain about the 9 hour drive home and the bath she got last night. She is a joy and my dogs love her. The Basenji is exhausted from chasing her and being chased around the house. They share toys and a water bowl. All of this is a first for the Basenji. He does not usually share.
I have to crate her just to let her rest from all the frollicking.
He is besotted by the beautiful gentle strawberry blond we brought home last night. She is a jewel and I feel like I won the lottery!! Please tell Bill I appreciate him bringing her to Ohio.
Take care and keep on blessing people with these awesome creatures. (Personally, I think they are angels on assignment, sent to mere mortals!

I found your website about a month ago, and have been truly touched by the wonderful work you do on behalf of these most special dogs. My family and I just lost our collie of almost 13 years after Christmas, and there isn't enough space here or anywhere else to explain how much she meant to all of us. Collies are incredibly sensitive, smart, and beautiful creatures, who deserve to be with people who will make every effort to understand and appreciate their unique spirits. You folks understand that... It is evident in everything on your site! I commend you all for being the caretakers for these collies, and for finding the best homes for all of them. We have adopted another dog, but may consider a companion dog in the future. If so, we would definitely seek a pet through your organization. Bless you all!!!

This is in tribute of Mollie, the senior collie I adopted one and one-half years ago. When my daughter, granddaughter and I came to Columbus, it was to adopt Polly, a blue merle collie. As we were finishing the paperwork, around the corner came Mollie. My heart broke when I looked at her, because she was underweight and was shaved. Mollie weighed approimately thirty pounds. I ask Laura and Sharon if she had a chance to be adopted and they both stated, "No one wants the older dogs". I looked at my daughter and she at me and we decided that no matter how short our time was with Mollie, we couldn't leave her. Last Palm Sunday, Mollie had a stroke. We thought we were going to loose her then, but she was so strong and recovered. We had to housebreak her again, but it was worth all the time we had. Mollie past away on March 1, 2005, and our hearts were broken. We got such great pleasure in seeing her love us as we loved her. As I write this tribute to her, I am crying. She gave back so much love and we miss her so much. Even though she was a Senior Collie I will never be able to thank Sharon for allowing us to have her. Thank you so much.

I only had one problem with her last night.....she jumped the fence. Any ideas on how to break this behavior? Gretchen sends her love. Thanks so much for my new little girl.

I work at the Jefferson Veterinary Clinic and love to see the dogs that are rescued and how they change as they get use to there new homes and people. Keep up the good work and we will steer people your way who are looking for a life time companion.

I got my beautiful Lady last March from Tri State. She was to keep my husband who was on disability company while I was at work. He and I both loved her. She was a really sweet dog whose favorite thing was to be close to us and have us pet and hug her. She got a lot of kisses too. When my husband died last October Lady kept me going. She seemed to know I was sad and she mourned too. Around the first of the year she started to have what we thought were digestive problems and we saw the vet several times. Each time she seemed to be getting better, then she would get sick again. Yesterday we found out she had stomach and colon cancer. My poor Lady was in bad shape so my daughter and I held her and stroked her fur while she peacefully went to sleep for the last time. I had her for less than a year but I will never forget her. My younger daughter said she was sent to us to make my husband happy and then she took care of me after he died. Now she is in Heaven keeping him company again since she knows I have Larry, the little Bassett/Beagle mix dog I got from the Bassett Rescue, to keep me company. I wlll miss her forever. Thank you Tri State for giving Lady to me. Collies are such wonderful dogs. Keep up the good work. - Judi Robinson

As an intake coordinator for Tri-State Collie Rescue and an avid reader of the guestbook entries, I thought it might be nice to have a chat group intended for the families of our adopted collies. I have started the Tri-State Collie Rescues family group on Yahoo, and if any of our families are interested in joining, please reply to this address...

Just tell me something about yourself, your collies name (if you've re-named, let me know their TriState name :)and when you adopted.
Thanks, Cindy

The collie is a breed of dog whose loyalty, devotion, intelligence and beauty is unmatched. If you've ever owned a collie you know what I'm talking about. If you've never been a collie owner before what a wonderful surprise you have in store for you if you choose to make a collie a part of your family. These dogs stare into your eyes and you can just see them desperately trying to understand every word so that they can do everything possible to please you. They want to be near you 24/7 but are extremely intelligent and obedient and will learn to “go lay down” very quickly. My parents bred collies as I was growing up. Some of my best friends as a child were those collies. Throughout my life I chose to try different breeds, mainly because of the effort it takes to keep a collie's hair off of furniture. Though I have loved those dogs, none have ever captured my heart like those collies of my youth. Now here I am 41 years old. Three months ago I found the “Tri State Collie Rescue”. Mary matched me up with a collie who had been given up by her owner. From the moment I saw Penny I knew she was my dog. When I walked in the door she sat in front of me tail wagging and paw extended for a welcome shake before she fell over on her side like a limp noodle so I could rub her tummy. After having her for three months now the entire family has fallen head over heels in love with her. Yes, she gets hair on my clothes and on my sofa (I don't have the heart to make her get down), but the love this dog has brought into my life far outweighs any effort that I may have to exert for her. I come home and I have this beautiful creature standing at the door with her soft brown eyes looking at me adoringly through the glass, tail wagging in excited anticipation. I open the door and as I squat down and put a hand on each side of her neck she sits down, lowers her head, lays her ears down and leans into me for a hug. As far as I'm concerned the love of a collie compares with no other. Mary and Tri State Collie Rescue have brought an angel into my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I just wanted to thank Sharon for letting us meet and adopt Teddy, who is now called Chance. He had only been with her for 3 days when we met him, and we realized that he was the perfect dog for us. He is about 3-4 years old, and perfectly well behaved. He is so gentle with my children that my 3 year old can walk him on his leash. I don't think we could have found a better match anywhere. He gets along very well with one of the two cats and with our older Keeshond rescue. I think he will be a wonderful dog for our boy to grow up with. Thank you so much!

I think your rescue is a wonderful thing! Your site is wonderful and if I could I would have a dozen collies.

We have a 3 year old, AKC Collie female, named Callie. She will never be bred... if she has babies... she won't BE the baby! ha ha!

We also have a 3 1/2 year old Border Collie female, named Panda. She is also an awesome animal.

Without "the girls" our lives would be so empty. To anyone considering adoption of a collie... if your looking for a friend, companion, and cuddle bug... these are the greatest!

Until you have had a 70 lb. collie try to be your lap puppy... you just haven't had LOVE!

Thanks! Suzi

We are very lucky to have a collie in our lives. Her name is Denver now but when we found her at TSCR she was known as "Shirley" and her sister was "Laverne". From the first afternoon she joined our family she has been faithful, loving, and protective of her pack. Thank you to Mary and TSCR for saving her from a kill shelter so that she can bring so much joy, laughter, and security to our family.

Thanks again for Gracie, the beautiful sable & white collie that I adopted from you last February. She is such a sweet dog and such a beauty! I appreciate also that whenever I have a question, Mary (Sychomare) is always quick to answer my email. I have been so inspired by you all that I am currently fostering a collie for another collie rescue organization and have offered my services to another. Only one at a time though! I don't know how some of you do so many at once! I have put a picture of Gracie in my homepage link--hope it works!

Thanks again for my big blonde beauty!!

Old guestbook entries...

Karen Story|We adopted tri-color Cruiser on July 30 and words can't describe the love affair. He will stand all day if someone will keep petting him and as soon as you stop, he pushes your hand back with his cold nose. EVERYONE falls in love with the big guy, especially one of our orphan cats Spiro who literally thought our other collie was his Mom. We discovered Cruiser has a big overbite and he has huge feet so we jokingly say his purebred name is B.F.(big foot)Bucky Cruiser. He loves to chase rabbits and squirels and will sit and look straight up into a tree 'pointing' at it. (I think someone else mentioned this too),hehe....He has a goofy sense of humor and this morning jumped on my lap when Dad was chasing him. (He weighs 74 pounds and is very long), eesh. He loves baths and traveling and tells us that he wants to visit nursing homes for more ear scratching and other events to tell about TSCR!! Susan|I drove out to Winchester early last month to adopt Ollie from Mary. It was a 12-hour trip each way, and it was worth every minute of the drive. Ollie is the greatest. He bonded with me on the way home, and quickly took to my partner and our other pets once we arrived home. Our 25 lb. Maine Coon cat, who thinks himself a collie (perhaps because he has a collie-like coat) walked right up to Ollie and rubbed on him like an old friend the moment I brought Ollie in the house! With complete poise, Ollie reached down and gave him a tender nibble and a kiss, and the two were immediate buddies. No one would ever guess that Ollie has been with us just over a month! I feel like he has always been our dog. He's such a happy, loving, and playful guy, I can't even look at him without smiling. I couldn't have dreamed up a more ideal dog with a better personality. On this Thanksgiving weekend, I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to Mary and all of you who rescue and find homes for these great animals. Ollie is a cherished addition to our family and I am so thankful to know that other dogs like him will also be placed in loving homes as a result of your hard work and dedication.|1101482108|sbarker@binghamton.edu|Binghamton, New York||24.94.37.61|1791|20041126||||||||||||||||||||||
janice|I just ran across your site doing a web search....I live in Decatur, Indiana, just south of Fort Wayne, and have always loved collies..(my oldest is a collie mix)...I too work with dog rescue (NorthernLights Sled Dog Rescue out of Indy)....I will bookmark your site, and hopefully someday, adopt one of your collies (my house is full right now, 3 dogs, 1 puppy, and 2 cats)....I also liked the memorial page, though it brought tears to my eyes...my oldest is 13.|1102441855|dogmom@mchsi.com|Decatur, Indiana||12.215.213.205|1802|20041207||||||||||||||||||||||
Jeanette|My husband has adopted two collies -Mickey (Sable & White) and Harry (Prince). Harry was a handful for a time, but now he is a sweetheart. Mickey was a companion to our older collie until we had to put him down due to very bad hind legs. He is a charmer, people tell us he should be a therapy dog. The work Tri State does is wonderful.|1103311930|Janet3170@aol.com|Medina, OH||205.188.116.137|1812|20041217||||||||||||||||||||||

Sandra Padgett|Hi, thank you Mary so much for taking care of Penny while she was in-between adoptive homes, giving her up was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do and you made it so much easier with your kindness and reassurance that she would eventually go to a loving caring home that truly wanted her. I know that she is happier now, and thats helps just a little whenever I start missing her....THANKS SO MUCH!!!|1104799174|ssspadgett@yahoo.com|Florence, Ky||216.68.211.202|1830|20050103||||||||||||||||||||||
Denise|Hi Sharon:

We adopted Leo from you on December 18, 2004. Leo is now Lucky and is responding well to his name. He is adorable and very well-behaved for a puppy. He has not had one accident in the house and is already sitting and giving me his paw on command. We are still working on Stay and Come. The vet says that he still needs to gain more weight and he is having a good time doing so. He doesn't gulp his food anymore. He is having a problem adjusting to the big city. I know I should be happy that he doesn't want to take walks, but I know he needs them. Hopefully, he will be able to within a few months. He is extremely frightened of cars driving down the street. For now, we sit on the front step a twice a day and watch the world go by. Eventually he will be ready to get off the step and explore. Also, I am really glad that he turned out to be a sheltie and that I will be able to carry him. Can you imagine me carrying a collie to the car for vet visits:-). By the way, he has already taken over my couch and love seat and even gives a dirty look if you are sitting in his way. Thank you for allowing this bundle of joy to become an addition to our home.|1105130583|Ddost@state.pa.us|Philadelphia, PA||199.79.10.118|1834|20050107||||||||||||||||||||||

My husband and I adopted a 5-year-old collie from Tri-State Collie Rescue about 3 months ago. She is the sweetest dog ever and we fell in love with her instantly. The 7-hour drive to Indiana was well worth it! I just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work you do for these collies!

I hope very soon I will be able to adopt one of your beautiful collies. My husband wants to wait until next year when we have more of a lawn for a dog to play in (we have a newly constructed home and it's quite muddy because of hardly any grass being in yet.) Anyway, I feel in my heart that I really want to rescue a dog. It breaks my heart to think of all the unloved or homeless animals out there, and I want to do my part in at least giving one a home and all the love it deserves. I will continue to check in on all of your beautiful collies and hopefully very soon I can have one of my own.

I'd like everyone to know what a great experience it is volunteering for Tristate Collie Rescue. It's a wonderful, heart-warming feeling to know you've helped an unfortunate collie. If you find yourself with some time on your hands, please consider volunteering for TSCR.

I called a lady in WV.about a collie dog named Taz, she told me he had found a great home, wonderful, I'm so happy for him. But she told me to look at the Tri-state collies and that's how I got here. It's a great thing your doing. I own 4 collies and was looking for an addition to our family. I'm not real good with our old computer, but I saw some lovely dogs. All my dogs are rescue's, and as my dogs get older I see why I couldn't find them other homes, I would have gone mad wondering if they were getting the love and care that all deserve. We live on 5 acre's with a large ranch home. I have half an acre fenced in. And plan to put up a kennel this fall, for watching other's dogs while they vacation in West Virginia, I had a 15 year dog business in Md. where I had 63 dog customers. I loved it, very rewarding, but the collie has been tugging on my heart strings since I was a little girl. I think I own all the Lassie movies ever made, as well as a collection of collie statues. Anyway just thought I'd let you know about me in case I'm contacting you about a collie. Just me, Nina 9-na's K-9 Kamp

I've always wanted a collie but am concerned that we are too old and sedate, our yard is not large enough, our fence is too low, etc. Now, have you ever heard of anyone so ridiculously insecure? Anyway, I've enjoyed your site and, as usual, shed some tears about the way people treat animals.

We adopted Lady from TSCR in Feb. We didn't know much about collies but after having her, we would recommend getting a collie from TSCR to anyone. The rug is messy now from dirt being tracked in, there are dog toys everywhere, she will hardly eat unless she is hand fed, and is the sloppiest drinker ever, but we wouldn't give her up for anything. The love and happiness she has brought us makes the extra work easy. She has the sweetest disposition and loves everyone she meets. Anyone reading this who is looking for a dog should definitely contact TSCR and see about adopting one of these wonderful dogs. You won't regret it.

Never thouhgt that I would like a Collie, till we rescued one from a puppy mill Beaver Springs, Pennsylvania about 8 years ago. She was a tri color and was 6 months old, and only weighed about 26lbs. She turned out to be the best dog that anyone could ask for. She and our daughter were the best of friends and were never apart. She started out with a rough life and we were afraid that with her not having any positive contact with people or other animals, we would have problems with her. Boy were we wrong, she loved everyone and everything, from the day we brought her home. These are the best dogs. Keep up the good work with the rescues. Hope to have another tri color someday.

We adopted Bam-Bam (who is now called "Sonny"), almost 3 weeks ago. What a WONDERFUL dog!! He is house broken, no problems at all, our boys had him sitting, laying and shaking hands within just a few days. He also knows the words "NO" & "STAY". I cannot believe how smart he is. And loving, and ohhhh soooo playful. It is like having a child in a dogs body. He fell in love with us almost as quickly as we fell in love with him. Thank you Sharon & TSCR for rescuing him for us to rescue from you. :) HAPPY EASTER !!!

I just wanted to drop a quick note to say thanks to you and Sharon for all of your help. Riley (we kept the name :) is doing very well. He has turned out to be completely housebroken and as sweet as can be! He met our neice (6 mos) and nephew (1 1/2) today and did great! He's good with the cat, but she is still a little apprehensive about him... but starting to come around. Riley is a joy and a great addition to our family! Thanks again TSCR!

We adopted Bailey on Valentine's Day. He was my gift from my husband. He is everything we were looking for and more. I never knew collies like to hunt, but he loves to go squirrel hunting. Every time we take him to out for our walks, he is on another adventure looking for his furry little friends! At every tree, he stops and looks up trying to eye one! He is so funny. In two months we have already trained him to sit when he gets his treats, and is in the process of learning how to shake. He has been such a delight to have for both myself and my husband, who by the way, didn't want a dog at all. But he has fallen in love with him too. He is such a beautiful dog that when we take him out, people stop and stare and point to him. We can't thank Tri State enough for rescuing him for us. And a great big "Thanks" to Laura Johnson who was able to convince us that Bailey was the dog for us! Keep up the great work!!!

I adopted Princess, a tri colored, 5 yr old from TSCR in August of 2002. She was a transition dog and companion to my 13 yr old collie that I had had since I was 5 yrs old. Sadly, Princess and Lassie were together only 2 and a half weeks before I had to have him put to sleep. I just wanted to let the wonderful people at TSCR know that she has been a vital part of my life and the 7 and a half hour drive to Ohio was WELL worth it. She is amazing. A dog that was once a stray, adopted out, returned back. A dog that was once called offensive and a project has blossomed into a GREAT part of my family. She knows she is loved and will be with me and her great dane brother, Sampson forever! Thanks to all the people at TSCR that allowed an 18 yr old girl to adopt another best friend in her life! Keep up with all the GREAT work you do!

I have the most wonderful collie from Tri State Collie resuce. Collies are difficult to find in Missouri and I drove 7 hours to adopt Stanley. Stanley, a sable and white, is a joy in my life and my is so loved by my family and friends. Tri State is a wonderful organization with outstanding volunteers. These collies are so lucky to be fostered by them. I highly recommend a rescue collie to anyone looking for a dog--puppy or adult. Collies are resilient, sweet, smart, fun, gentle, and wonderful pets for people and children of all ages. Stanley has brought me so much happiness and joy.

Thank you Mary for getting us together with Gracie. She is such a dear, even if she did get skunked within 10 days of getting her! When I take her to Petsmart, people actually have thanked me for sharing her with them. Everyone loves a collie--must be that good PR from the Lassie tv shows. She loves to ride in the car, (something my sheltie hates) so I am always looking for excuses to take her in the car with me. The sheltie is Papa's girl, but Gracie is definitely mine! Thanks again!
